Soaring Towards a Rewarding Aviation Career at TFA Flight Academy

Take your passion for flying to new heights with a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) from TFA Flight Academy. This program equips you with the advanced skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a rewarding career in professional aviation. Whether you dream of becoming an airline pilot, a corporate pilot, or a flight instructor, the CPL is a crucial stepping stone towards achieving your goals.

What is a Commercial Pilot License?

Issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) authorizes you to fly single-engine airplanes for compensation or hire. This license allows you to:

  • Fly commercially: Transport passengers or cargo for hire, opening doors to various career opportunities in the aviation industry.

  • Increase flight privileges: Compared to a Private Pilot License (PPL), a CPL allows you to fly at night, carry passengers for hire, and perform more complex flight maneuvers.

  • Enhanced skillset: The CPL program refines your piloting skills and introduces you to advanced aviation principles, preparing you for the demands of professional flying.

What You'll Gain in Our CPL Program:

Our comprehensive CPL program goes beyond basic flying. Here's a glimpse into the enriching learning experience that awaits you:

  • Advanced Aircraft Operations: Master complex maneuvers, emergency procedures, and high-performance aircraft operation techniques.

  • In-Depth Navigation: Sharpen your navigation skills through advanced techniques like dead reckoning, pilotage, and utilizing various navigation systems for precise flight planning and execution.

  • Aviation Regulations and Procedures: Gain a thorough understanding of complex Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) governing commercial flight operations.

  • Aircraft Systems Management: Develop a comprehensive understanding of aircraft systems, their functions, and proper management procedures for optimal performance and safety.

  • Professional Development: Learn essential skills for success in the aviation industry, including communication, decision-making, crew resource management, and flight planning.

The Path to Your CPL:

The CPL program typically combines ground school instruction with intensive flight training.

Take the First Step Towards Your Dream:

FAA Requirements and Minimums for CPL:

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) outlines the eligibility and experience requirements for obtaining a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) in Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) Part 61. Here's a breakdown of the key criteria:

Eligibility:

  • Hold a valid Private Pilot License (PPL) with an airplane category and single-engine class rating.

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language. If you have a medical condition that prevents this, the FAA may issue a CPL with limitations.

Aeronautical Knowledge:

  • Pass a written knowledge test administered by an FAA-authorized examiner. The test covers advanced topics such as commercial flight regulations, performance and limitations of aircraft, navigation procedures, and principles of flight instruction.

Flight Experience:

  • Log a minimum of 250 hours of flight time as a pilot, of which:

    • 100 hours must be in powered aircraft, of which 50 hours must be in airplanes.

    • 50 hours must be cross-country flight of which at least 10 hours must be in airplanes.

    • 10 hours of solo flight time in airplanes.

    • 5 hours of cross-country flight in airplanes as Pilot in Command (PIC).

    • Night flight training:

      • 5 hours of night flight time of which 3 hours must be cross-country flight.

      • 10 takeoffs and landings to a full stop (with each landing involving a flight in the traffic pattern) at an airport.

  • Training:

    • 20 hours of dual instruction from an authorized flight instructor (CFI) in an airplane. This training must include:

      • Complex maneuvers.

      • Emergency procedures.

      • High-performance and retractable landing gear operations (if applicable).

      • Instrument procedures.

    • 10 hours of solo flight time in airplanes performing the tasks specified in the above training.

  • Medical Certification:

    • You must hold a valid medical certificate from an FAA-authorized medical examiner. For commercial pilot privileges, a second-class medical certificate is required. This medical certificate involves a more rigorous examination compared to the third-class medical certificate needed for a Private Pilot License.

Practical Test:

Upon meeting the knowledge and experience requirements, you will be eligible to take a practical test with an FAA-designated examiner. The practical test is designed to assess your ability to safely perform the following tasks under normal and abnormal conditions:

  • Pre-flight procedures: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of aircraft pre-flight inspection procedures and proper aircraft preparation for commercial flight operations.

  • Aircraft operation: Perform complex maneuvers, emergency procedures, and demonstrate proficiency in high-performance aircraft operation (if applicable).

  • Navigation: Execute various navigation techniques effectively, including dead reckoning, pilotage, and utilizing various navigation systems for accurate flight planning and execution.

  • Flight planning and decision-making: Demonstrate sound judgment and proficiency in flight planning, including weather analysis, risk assessment, and decision-making for safe and efficient commercial flight operations.

  • Airport operations: Perform safe and efficient takeoffs, landings, and taxi procedures at controlled airports while adhering to ATC instructions and procedures.

Additional Considerations:

  • Currency Requirements: To maintain your CPL currency, you must perform specific activities within specified timeframes. These activities may include flight time, landings, and cross-country flights. We will provide you with detailed information about currency requirements.

By successfully completing the CPL program at TFA Flight Academy and meeting all FAA requirements, you'll be well-equipped to embark on a rewarding career in the exciting world of professional aviation.
